Again thanks to all who have completed the Survey relating to the impact of losing key Chemical Database Services. Please note that we will terminate access to this survey on Thurs 21st February.A copy of our original message is available via the link:

http://cds.dl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/news/dispm?2008-01-21_a_survey As indicated previously, the results of this survey will help us todecide how to procede further. In particular is it worthwhile investigating alternative funding

models to try to restore some of the facilities that have been lost?

Without healthy user support we will not be in a strong position to

argue for this alternative funding.

The following link gives full details of the Survey:

  1.
  2. The Web of Knowledge interface has recently been upgradedNew features include the ability to analyze results by subject, document type, author and language by using the ‘Refine results box’ at the left of the screen. The full records now contain more information and links. When you access Web of Knowledge, it defaults to searching across all databases. We recommend that you click the Select a database tab then select Web of Science as this allows more precise searching.

New Version of Copac Released

New version of Copac released, includes searching ESTC at the British LibraryWe have released a new version of Copac. The main change is that your searches are now carried out both on Copac and on the English Short Title Catalogue (ESTC) at the British Library. The records retrieved from ESTC are merged into a single result set with the results from the Copac database. In the Copac ‘Main search’ screen ESTC is included in the ‘Libraries’ list field. Thus it is possible to restrict a search to ESTC alone, or to combine it with one or more other libraries eg. ESTC and the Register of Preservation Surrogates. The ESTC catalogue includes details of materials published between c.1473 and 1800, largely English language publications from Britain and America.

Another change is the addition of a ‘Printer friendly’ option on the Full record display. This option takes you to a version of the Full Record that excludes all the page navigation and any book cover image.

This makes for a more concise display that is useful if you want to quickly print out a single record.
