Refining a search simplified
A new navigation pane on the search results page provides a view of the research output on a subject by year, by content type or by journal/book titles with the most results. By using these filters you can refine your search results without having to return to the search form.

Quickly evaluate articles before reading them
P
review tabs provide quick access to the important article assessment components: the abstract, figures/tables and references. These tabs are on the results page, the table of contents page and the
article page.

Reference information available without scrolling to the foot of articles
Full reference information displays as a pop-up within the body of a paper when the cursor moves over a
reference marker.

Copyright and digitization compliance within Blackboard

Blackboard, digitization, copyright, e-services No Comments »

Following my earlier messages concerning compliance with the terms of the Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA), I would like to take this opportunity of reminding you that there are specific regulations relating to the material you are permitted to post to the Blackboard VLE. For full details of our Blackboard Acceptable Use Policy please refer to the information at: http://www.swansea.ac.uk/lis/HelpAndGuides/copyright/BBcopyright/

CLA logoAny breach of the licence or copyright infringement discovered could result in severe consequences for both the University and the individual placing the content on to Blackboard; therefore it is imperative that all requirements of the licence are fulfilled, or full acknowledgement and explicit permissions from the rights holder/s are attached to any third party materials appearing on Blackboard. Anything not compliant with the requirements of the licence or without copyright permission must be removed from Blackboard.

Any member of academic staff at Swansea University can request digital copies be made through LIS. However under the terms of the license only designated people may carry out the digitisation, and for the purpose of the license this is staff from the Scanning Team, located in the Inter-Library Loans Office, on Level 2 of the Library & Information Centre. If you have any doubts as to whether your BB modules comply with the terms of the license, please contact your subject team librarian, a member of the scanning team, or email digex@swansea.ac.uk

Blackboard logo

May I also remind you that you are required under the terms of the CLA Higher Education Trial Digitisation license to make your digitised work available ‘for one course of study’, i.e. 52 weeks, only. As part of the licence conditions we are required to ask you to ensure that the course content continues to be relevant to the course of study for which it is intended. Staff in the Inter-Library Loans/Digex office will be contacting academic colleagues over the summer period to renew relevant CLA scans.

Full details of the licence requirements can be found under ‘Digitisation Licence’ on the LIS webpage, along with general copyright information and clearance procedures at: http://www.swan.ac.uk/lis/HelpAndGuides/copyright/digitization/

General information on copyright is at http://www.swan.ac.uk/lis/HelpAndGuides/copyright/
